I am planning a lesson to go along with our butterfly theme in a couple of weeks. We are going to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. After reading the story, each student is going to get a Ziploc bag with a large caterpillar on it. I made the caterpillar on my computer in a simple word document using the shapes tool. It is so cute! They will also each get a set of all the foods the caterpillar eats in the story. I cut a hole in the stomach so that the children can see what the caterpillar eats as they put it in his mouth. We are going to use it for a sequencing activity. I will ask, "What did the caterpillar eat on Monday? Tuesday?, etc." Each time, the children will find that food and "feed" the caterpillar. I think this is a great hands-on sequencing activity and I cannot wait for the children to participate in it!
