We are dealing with this issue at our school as well. I am
the middle school librarian and believe they are not
appropriate for middle school on down. Scholastic Book
Fairs would not even carry the fourth book as they did not
believe it was appropriate either. As the parent of a
fifth grader, I would not want my son to read these for
many reasons, and so the parent permission slip sounds
like a good idea for anyone planning to use them in the
classroom.
