Re: Using Storybooks
I've been through a lot of training on how to use picture
books in the classroom. Because of a limited amount of time,
I link reading and writing together when I select a book. So
while I can teach a 6+1 Trait of writing, or composition, I
can also teach story elements like plot, cause & effect, etc.
I don't read the whole book, but just enough to get the
lessons across. This teases whets students' appetites to read
the story/novel, so I leave it up on my chalkboard to check
out and finish on their own. They love it and have better
retention. Here are some websites you might want to check
into... The first is the coolest! I still haven't finished
going through all of this. And the coolest part is the
Classroom section! If you have any other questions, don't
hesitate to email me!
