I would think that having assignments along the way is a good
approach. I remember when I was reading a novel for school I
liked having to read a few chapters and then dicuss it. It
also helps the slower readers keep up with the rest as you
said.
Making the activites interactive may also help all students
to understand the plot and learn the literary devices. Which
novel are they reading? I would love to help you think of
some fun ways to test that they have read and understood the
material.
