I, too, have never felt the need for Facebook or My Space. My generation
considered privacy important. However, I am realizing that I may have to
change my mind about that. My Mom--age 75--just got on Facebook because
my cousin wanted her to be able to see pictures of her kids in an easy
way. Still not sure how I feel, but realizing there may be some
advantages in general.
It is amazing how much I can access about students online and I don't
have any of those accounts. Some of the things I have seen young
teachers put on their pages make me think they are pretty stupid and
corrupt. I have also been surprised at how chummy they seem to be on
those pages with our students. Again, I couldn't have seen any of those
things or made those conclusions if the pages were private.
