Post: multigrade class
 Kyle Posted on 8/21/09
Hello, My name is Kyle. I have taught math in the
intermediate grades for several years. Due to the steady
decline in our student enrollment over the past 3 years, I
am now the Fifth and Sixth Grade Teacher. I will be
teaching children in all subjects, excluding science. I
have had experience teaching different grade level math
groups during the summer. Respectfully, I am not clue less,
but having never taught full-time in a multigrade position,
I am seeking all advice, guidelines, strategies, planning
ideas, and methods for managing the two groups: providing
aggressive and high quality learning experiences. What is
included in an initial effective teacher talk and set of
activities that will facilitate and contribute to a
positive tone and framework throughout the whole year? I
know there are many perspectives, and I would like to hear
as many possible(simple and complex.). What are the top
three tips etc. you would offer? I do feel a bit nervous,
but I enjoy trying new things. I enjoy teaching, and I want
to be well organized and very effective in this new
opportunity to impact the lives of my students. Please
include experiences with parents and advice for dealing
with their concerns, if any. I appreciate your taking time
to read my post and thank you in advance for any and all
help and encouragement. Kyle, Michigan
