Hello all. I am in my 2nd year of teaching elementary art at an inner city school. I am having a hard time battling where to go from here. I am pretty unhappy with teaching. My school, though being inner city, is a pretty decent school. Great staff, nice kids, etc. We do definitely have the behavior issues that comes along with urban environments, and my budget is extremely low for supplies.

After much thought, I really feel its not my school, and that it is the core of teaching I do not like. I didnt love student teaching either. I really feel uncomfortable with classroom management, and have a very very soft personality. Many days I dread waking up and going to school, despite the fact that my job is really decent. I know it not only affects me, but my students too! They de...See More

Change Yes Leah, I did enjoy the preschool experience very much. I love children, which is why I went into teaching. However, you nailed it on the head. I do have less need to be as firm with preschoolers, which is why I was more comfortable in that environment. Yes, I could be creative with art- the director likes the preschool to be very art centered an...See More

math ms I received my teaching certificate in MN them moved to IL. For a variety of reasons, I taught preschool there. As lead teacher, I had similar responsibilities. I was tight on behaviour and feel that though it wasn't easier, it was "different." After two years in preschool, I returned to teaching middle school with no problems. What I discovered was...See More
