I taught K/1 for two years. I think that just like any class (spilt
or not) you'll have so many students working at levels that it
really only makes sense to do things in small groups. Reading,
spelling/word word and math are definitely in small groups. While
working with groups, others are working at their seats or in
learning centers. Definitely go slow the first few weeks to
establish classroom management and expectations. For science and
social studies, I used mainly the 1st grade curriculum, but would
add bits and pieces of the K if something different overlap (most
did).
It's definitely overwhelming at first but really is fun. Good luck
and keep posting!
