Phew! How do you do it? I thought a 1/2 combo was a
challenge. I can't imagine all of the standards, curriculum
areas, and special needs you must be juggling.
As I said, I teach a 1/2 combination class and use the
Houghton Mifflin program as well. I've found that the stories
on CD work well as an independent and engaging activity for
students to participate in while you are teaching a mini-
lesson to other students. I also have students pair up to do
worksheets from Houghton Mifflin and rely on each other to
answer questions while I am instructing the other grade. This
way, I can make the most of my direct instructional time
without being interrupted.
