Re: All hail! thou noble land "America"
And this one:
A Constitutional Dream
-by hardy parkerson
The other night I had a dream
As real as it could be.
There were Wasington, Madison, Hamilton,
Standin’ right in front of me.
Old George he asked, “Where has it gone,
The charter that we wrote?
The Bill of Rights, where has it gone?”
A lump swelled in his throat.
I tried to answer best I could,
As tears came to my eyes;
Said, “We’ve read of you, as all men should;
It’s nice to see you guys!
“I don’t know I can answer you
But let me at least try it.
It seems today if one wants justice,
He had best have money to buy it.
“I s’pose you’ve heard they’ve put a tax
Upon the right to bail;
And if a defendant the money lacks,
He’ll rot away in jail.
“And how defendants are made to pay
The judges money to bond out,
Even ‘fore they are found guilty
Beyond a reasonable doubt.
"Yes, I s'pose you guys are right:
It's not like it used to be,
When constitutional rights were foremost
In the eyes of the judiciary."
“I ‘spect you’re right, that we are now
A gov’ment of men, not laws;
And that the courts have read away
Even the ‘due process’ clause.
