Here's what I do to "shorten it." It's not a shorter
version, just a different printing format: When I print
it, I select the option "2 pages per page." (something like
that) Then it shrinks each page so each two pages are
printed side by side, horizontally. Then, if you want-
though our photocopiers are not really up to the task, you
can double side copy them.
As far as testing goes, I try to do it more of the DRA way,
that is to say: If a student scores a certain percentage
accuracy, depending on his/her comprehension, I determine
an independent level and an instructional level. I only
give a second test if the testing result is ambiguous.
(example: 96%, Level G and strong comprehension =
Instructional level H, independent level, G.)
