Re: I hate fountas and pinnell reading stations

I've been teaching for 10 years, and our school uses Fountas and
Pinnell extensively. In fact, my classroom is one of the mentor
classrooms for other teachers to observe. I have to say that my
2nd grade students never crawl around on the floor or act like
monkeys during Guided Reading, Stations, or Independent Reading.
In fact, they are capable of sitting for 45 minutes of
Independent Reading time while I pull several groups. They
participate in book discussion groups that require higher level
critical thinking skills. It takes a lot of modeling in the
beginning and having very clear expectations! My students end
the year on level and loving books! Hang in there and truly try
to figure it out
