Eliza,
Are you implementing RM with a whole classroom comprised of both
struggling and average students? I have never used RM instruction
with more than five struggling readers in a small pull out group. I
know that there are schools out there that enforce teachers to use RM
with whole classroom settings, but I have never tried it or seen it.
Honestly, I think it would be terribly complicated and take a
wonderous, talented teacher to pull it off.

I have had great success using RM with small groups. I've never had a
student think it was boring. The DI experts say that it takes 5 years
of training before a teacher is effective delivering RM instruction.
I totally agree. There are only a few interventions that I think are
even close to RM in helping students achieve success: Project Read,
Lindamood Bell's LIPS program, Reading for all Learners (I See Sam
books), Funnix, Headsprout, Horizons, Touchphonics, Torgeson's
Interventions in Reading, and Dancing with Bears/apples and pears.
Recent studies have shown that repetition changes the brain. For
those that are struggling terribly, repetition is a necessity until
mastery is achieved. Even if the teacher finds it boring.
