I'm a veteran teacher, licensed in elementary, gifted
(K-12), middle school science and social studies.
For 15 years, I've played the public school game and I am
just weary of the chase.
All we seem to do is test test test and get ready for the
test.
Our classrooms are populated with "special needs" children
that we are supposed to teach, but they come to us with
almost no prerequisite skills, unrealistic IEPs, and a
whole staff of enabling special ed teachers who, rather
than providing support, provide even more reason for the
students to do nothing and be rewarded for it.
Administrators seem to get weaker and weaker by the year
and we often have little or no leadership.
I would love to be in a place where I can teach, not test,
have high expectations once more and not see them shot down
by IDEA..
No place is perfect. I know that. But I feel as though I
have been walking uphill in deep sand.....
