One of my best ice-breakers: I gave parents a teddy bear
shaped cut out and asked them to write at least 3 great
things about their child. I reminded them to be specific. I
then posted the bears on a bulletin board titled "Need a Warm
Fuzzy" so that my kids could get a boost from home at school.
The kids loved it. I also had a blast performing the Boa
Constrictor poem with them with motions. We started with a
good laugh, which is always helpful.
