Have you used the reader's and writer's workshop model? I see
it working well with a variety of learners. Look into the work
of Stephanie Harvey, Debbie Miller, Katie Wood Ray etc.. I
would also like to suggest the company joyful noise. I teach
at a multi-age school and we use math programs that kids do
independently and progress at their own level in addition to
the small group instruction. Have you also thought of
buddying up with another teacher to possible share kids so
that groupings can be together at least for part of the
academic day for example: one teacher take all kids at K-2
levels for a subject while the other takes 3-5.
