Hi Everyone,

I am a first year teacher in a spanish bilingual program in Alberta. Just looking for ideas if I should be teaching letters in sounds in both alphabets at the same time or separately?

Jill I taught English first since there are so many more sounds, if you actually teach it that way. I taught the three sounds of ch, the "ch" the "k" and the "sh." I used the phonics from vertical phonics dot com. Most of the vowels had 3 sounds as well. I also taught ch in Spanish as one sound and the ll as one sound. ...See More

Jennifer Do all of your students have the same L1? It's common to teach letters and sounds in the students' native language first, then in the second language, but if your students have different native languages (some native English speakers and some native Spanish speakers) then you'd need to choose one - probably English as Jill suggested, both because t...See More
