My daughter did a study abroad in Germany her Junior year of
high school! and studied Spanish all four years of high
school (even in Germany!) when she arrived back her senior
year, she took (in one semester) English, Spanish, French (at
the high school) and then German Level 2! at the university!
She is now 20 and wants to learn Norwegian (is still studying
German at the local university part time.) She has been
looking on Collegeboard.com for colleges. She is interested
in using her love of languages (specifically German or
Scandinavian, so that has made her narrow her search as there
are not many colleges that have decent majors in those
languages) to do something with travel or international
business, so she is looking in that direction. She also told
me that the study of linguistics helps people get translating
jobs - so a major or minor in linguistics might be an idea
too! Good luck to her!!!! I am a Spanish teacher so I love
to hear of a student who loves to learn languages!! :-)
