Adding to R. Garcia's excellent post-
If you are in a hotel fire and go out into the hallway use
something to wedge your door open a crack. If a fire is bad
enough to force you back into your room you could lose
valuable seconds trying to get your room key to work. Dense
smoke may make it impossible to even see the door lock.
