Post: Tutoring

Posted by Ms. Apple on 10/21/07

Hi, I thought I would get this board going. If you are
like me you are a new teacher who is tutoring a few
students. I work with two fourth graders and a first
grader. All three of my tutorees have improved since I
started to work with them, which has been gratifying.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for tutoring an
above average fourth grade reader who has no motivation to
challenge himself. He is consistently omitting sight words
and choosing books that are too easy for his reading
level. He also refuses to do any of the assignments I
give him to improve his reading responses and
comprehension. Any tips? I appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks a lot~
