Post: watch out for the tutor scam!!!!

Posted by they will hire you as a tutor but just steal your money!! on 6/25/08

I saw an ad on C...list from a parent in France looking
for a tutor for his French daughter coming to the US for 3
weeks. He wanted a tutor for 2 hours, 2 times a week for 3
    weeks for English.

So I emailed him asking what times and days she wanted
tutoring. Something was a little off but I didn't really
get it that it was a scam until I got this last email from
him. I googled tutor scams and found out there is a whole
scam that involves a foreigner sending you too much money
to tutor their child and then wanting you to wire the
difference to them. Of course, their check is fake and you
    lose thousands of dollars.

Here is "Joel Fink's" email. He is a fink, huh?! I thought
that was a strange name for a French person.

    hello,
How are you doing?I am so sorry for the late
in response to my email.I will like you to know that
i am so much very interested since she will be
arriving anytime this week but i will like you to
know soemthings before i accept it that you are
going to tutor her.Like you have known that we are
from france and tammy will be coming to USA
alone.I think i will like to figure things out
before she leave.concerning the payment for your
service i have a problem with it but i think it
something you can do for me if you wish to assist
me like i have said i only email you concerning
this tutor and i will do appreciate it if you
accept my plight with this process..Well since you
said hyou can easily get a place for her i think
once you recieve the payment you can easily deduct
the rent fee from it then...

The client of mine that will be sending the
payment to you stated that he sent the total amount
that he owes me on the cashiers check which is
$4000,well i felt so sad when i heard this and
he said the reason why he did this was that he
wanted to issue out the check ar once because he
will be leaving for a trip and he does not know
when he will have access to check his email, but
there us nothing for you to be worried about all
have to do is just to receive the payment and
deposit it and once it clears i will give you the
info where to send the excess to after you deduct
the $350 which will be for your service for tutoring
Tammy..I will like you to help me out since you are
doing accepting payment for your service and he can
easily issue it on your name......it will waste alot
of time if he send it to me and due to the
currency barrier and even the distance, it will
take 1 month for US check to clear which i know
it will not take more than 2 hrs to clear there
in USA since its a cashiers check if not
    instantly..

So if you are ok with this email kindly email
me the info below so as to send it to him and mail
out the check to you today and let you know when it
    will deliver..

    here is the info needed

    The name on the check
    Your home address
    Your cell phone number..

Hope to hear from you soon
