I'm back...:)

I'll try to make this is as short as possible...

I've taught for two years and still really, really struggle with certain areas of classroom management and would love ANY advice on the subject.

I've just moved the past year and am now forced to sub. with lack of jobs. I find many of the problems I have subbing were the same problems I had in my first two years of teaching, and these kids have only known me for a day!

I should preface this by saying that my personality with kids is very over the top, I am very positive, charismatic, etc. while teaching which energizes the kids, but almost to the point of lack of control.

I find that with following behaviors I am either TOO strict or not strict enough:

Voice level of students Off-task behavior/talking to friends Silly behavior

helpingpeopleteachthemselves I worked with what were called "behavioral" children for several years, though I no longer do. I had some problems with discipline, but fewer than most people, so that other teachers would actually ask me how they could solve some of their problems. L I have found Barry Bennett's Instructional Intelligence approach very helpful. I also use tribes. I don't sub, so I don't know the effect both these would have in your situation, but I have been happy with the response I get from my classes

Teach Okay, here goes. I don't agree with the no smile, stern, no positive comments, serious all the time, etc. Who wants to spend all day or an hour a day with someone who always has a stern look or scowl on their face?
