Re: First gr. contraction games or activities needed

Hey there! I taught first and second grade for a few years...For contractions there is a way to fold a piece of paper so that when it's completely open it shows the word completely, such as cannot, and when it's folded it only shows can't... I'm going to check to see if I can find the instructions online..it was a GREAT visual for the kids to understand. Also, each child wrote a contraction in a sentence on sentence strips and glued an elbow macaroni piece as the apostrophe... Below is somewhat of an activity I found that may be a way you can teach it. It's from a website I was looking at...Activity: Make a contraction: Fold a sheet of paper in half -- cut told portion vertically to represent the two words did not (students write did not on top two flaps). Lift and have students combine did not on back flap to create one word didn't (glue the macaroni in place of missing letter/letters). Here is a visual of the way I do it on my own, but you can also purchase cards ...there is a picture on the website here: http://www.eaieducation.com/104159.html
Hope this helps!
