I teach a lot of subjects this way,
you make comtractions on the board. like: don't
then you make cards: do ...not
Make lots of cards to go with the contractions you want to teach.
Then wad up the cards, throw around the room, students go get a
wadded card and come back to their seat. or carpet or whatever.
by the way, they get the wads SILENTLY. Then say, open your wad
and go stand by the contraction you think it goes to.
Then, after you check it and talk about it, they wad, throw it,
and you tell them when to go get their new wad. you can do it as
many times as you want. You can do this game with math, compoound
words, whatever. They have to be silent until discussion time.
I also use this game to select reading partners, or math
partners, or whatever.
