    I teach Kindergarten and we are book buddies with a 4th
    grade class. We did a great lesson on similes. First we
    read Quiet as a cricket. Then we discussed all of the
    similes. The students said that they were as angry as a
    ____________, as strong as an___________ etc... Then we drew
    pictures of popcorn all over a white piece of paper. We
    then microwaved real popcorn and they wrote a simile about
    the popcorn on the bottom of the paper. Popcorn is as hot
    as a volcano or as yellow as the sun... etc... then they ate
    it up! They had a great time and really got alot out of it!

    I teach in Palm Beach Florida- where are you? Please email
    me at laurenstat@hotmail.com If you get any more good ideas
    let me know! Thanks- Lauren
