I have been trying to open a recovery based housing in my
community for over 3 years. I have gotten my grant writing
certificate to help me apply for the correct grants available and
to understand the grant language. I have a board of directors,
three is a must to get it legal. I registered with the Nebraska
State Secretary the Articles of Operation/ Organization, it cost
$100 by the time I paid the weekly ad that has to follow the
Aricles to become a legal non-profit. I have monthly board
meetings and update my community programs to see where we can
work together. I have presentations with different government
programs, Dept of Economics, local and state, businesses,
realtors, Heartland Re-entry program, and more. I still don't
have a house yet but we are in the stages of fundraising money to
purchase HUD and Forclosed homes. The states are now going
through grant money to fix, renovate or build new, housing from
the program called Neighborhood Stablization Program. We are
hoping to get our homes from it, free of charge with repairs done
for free by the grant program. We are close to opening up. I have
a sent of rules, bylaws, and programing that is specialized for
each client. We have a live in residential den person and back
up. We provide shelter, food, all uilities, job and life classes
to improve their lives. We provide it all for 50% of their income
after deducations are taken out. It ends up between $350-$800 is
the highest cost a month per client.
The rules will be followed.
I don't do it alone. I got recovery friends to help me with this
project and the community. The community doesn't want it --it
won't work!
It has been a long wait and there's so much more that we do then
just house sober people. We house according to gender not CO ED.
Email me if you want more information.
