Re: Do Chinchillas make good pets?![]()
Posted by Lisa P on 12/10/07
Hi,
have spent the night at our local zoo for Cub Scouts a couple
of times. Each time we got to pet Chinchillas. They are
sweet and cute and fuzz and all that. It would be terrible to
make them a classoom pet though. They are very nervous
creatures. When they get nervous their body temperature
rasies which is bad. They have problems overheating. Their
fur is wonderful bu prepares them to live high in elevaiton in
the cold air of the Andes. Consequently, classroom
temperatures would be hard on them. Again, they have problems
dealing with being overheated. Yes, they are a sweet animal.
The zoo officials really stressed how unfair it is to make
them a pet. Hope this helps
