i have a trio of platies in a 5 gallon aquarium. Lately,
i've been seeing them sliding thier bodies on rocks. The
behavior is actually pretty recent and rare (ive seen each
one do it like only once or twice in the last 4 days). The
only reason i worry is that i've seen each one do it. Now,
they only choose to do this on the smooth rocks (as opposed
to the more jagged surfaces in the tank). My first instinct
is to suspect a parasitic illness such as ich. Despite my
efforts to confirm this, i see no other symptoms that would
say it was parasitic. They are all, in fact, in very good
shape, display no pale coloring, show no visible symptoms,
and eat eagerly during feedings. Any second opinions on what
this behavior could be?

I do know that when my bettas have had some parasitic infestation, they've done
the same-- even when you cannot see the parasite! I'd treat with maracide or
methelyne blue-- (maracide is sold at petco and petsmart)-- remove the carbon
in the filter and treat as directed. It works!
Let me know how it goes.
