I am a music teacher and usually do a month long study of
composers with my third graders, one each week covering the
four major periods of music history. I like to use the
series of books called "Famous Children: Handel (or Bach,
Chopin, etc.) by Ann Rachlin. Our library has them. The
kids really like them and they focus on the childhood of each
composer. She also has written a series on visual artists.
I have a question board containing 8 questions. The "best"
listeners get to pull a question card at the end and ask the
question. They then call on a student to answer it; it is
like being the teacher and they love it!
