O’FALLON, MO- With the “Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader”
Grant a local elementary school in O’Fallon is trying to
earn a $25,000 grant through an online program, with hopes
to use the money to upgrade resources to improve reading
instruction and equip students to become proficient
readers.
Westhoff Elementary is competing to receive a grant through
the Pepsi Refresh Project's online voting in December.
People can vote once per day throughout the month, and the
projects that receive the most votes will win grant
funding.
With the “Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader Grant” a wide
variety of fiction and non-fiction books will be purchased
for students to use in guided reading instruction. Funds
will also provide access to an online reading program to
benefit both students and teachers. The books in the
bookroom will be used by teachers in all grades (K-5) to
provide Westhoff's 500 students with the texts needed to
learn to think both critically and creatively.
To vote, go online to the Pepsi Refresh Project site
refresheverything.com/westhoff. For more information on
Westhoff Elementary, call 636-272-6710, or visit the Fort
Zumwalt School District’s web site www.fz.k12.mo.us.
