    Post: North Alaska Teaching...

    Posted by watcher on 3/16/09

Thank you Alaska Teacher for writing from North Slope. My
perspective on recent issues... TB was kind and
encouraging last fall, to me. I too am researching some
other areas up north...North Slope seems, to me, to be the
most fraught district in Alaska that I have found. I
wonder if it has to do with the magnetics up there, being
so close to the north pole. IN any case, I am interested
in coming up. Commment please: When googling Brevig
Mission (bssd) near the top of the list of entries was a
www.city-data.com reference to sex offenders living there -
in 2007 I think the ratio was 56 people to 1. Names and
addresses given. Have a little interest in understanding
the climate up there with regard to this. It's the first
time the issue came up in searching (I've run across no
other villages with that information attached when
googling yet). The village is so small - it would be
easily possible to exactly understand who is who - unless
one ignored the information available online. That could
be a little embarrassing. Anyway... no big deal.

Also, I want to understand to what degree the school and
community are so tightly bound together that the freedom
not to attend some community functions may not really
exist. Again... that's fine - just curious :)
