Posted by 1st grade teacher on 7/04/08 Wendy, I hate to say it, but the job outlook right now is not so great. Alabama laid off many teachers in May due to the education budget not being passed, and when they did pass it, they managed to cut funds. Your best bet would be getting your foot in the door and subbing (I know, subbing, bleck!), but it would give you the chance to get the Alabama certification in hand for next year. When you go to the state department website, there is a link on the main webpage for Teach Alabama or Teach in Alabama, not sure which it is called, but it allows you to browse the posted teaching positions and submit your application. Alabama is a great state and north Alabama has some beautiful sights (I'm originally from Huntsville, but now live in east central Alabama). Good luck!
