Plan on interviewing at one:

Keep in mind the following:

They do not contribute to the state retirement system. They may not offer adequate pay raises. They usually start at a much lower pay rate than public schools. They are usually data driven. They require a lot of extra time aside from normal school hours; meetings, school functions, IEP meetings that are convenient for parents. I could go on but be careful and get everything in writing. Ask if they are getting prop 123 funds and how much will be directed to you if any.

not all charters are bad I work for ASU Prep Acad and they contribute to the pension. They also cover benefits and pay is on par with Mesa unified and Gilbert public schools. Yes, the year is longer than a public school but class sizes are smaller. At least it's not as bad as some of the other charter schools.
