I'm sorry to hear about your situation, and I'm especially that
people have been so nasty on this chat board. I have a feeling
no one likes them, including themselves.
I was in a similar situation a couple years ago, and was upfront
with my principal about my reasons for leaving. I too was
working 12-hour days (5 preps!) in my position with no support,
and the lack of sleep and free time was causing panic attacks.
My principal was very understanding, and I was able to leave the
position within a few weeks without the district taking any
action because of contract violation. They did have time to
find a replacement, and it's the best decision I ever made. I've
returned for a second year in my new district, and I couldn't
be happier.
Just know that the people who matter in life will be
understanding of your situation, and you don't need to be
ashamed. In fact, aside from your administrator you don't
really owe anyone an explanation. "Personal matters out of my
control" should suffice. You need to think about yourself. Your
physical and mental health need to come first. Find your
happiness!
Good luck!
