We do not have a union in Texas. If you break a contract it is up
to the district to accept or reject it. If they choose to refuse
you to allow to break the contract you can lose your teaching
certification. In general, a person can break a contract for
medical reasons, family medical issues/emergencies, a spouse who
has to move for their job position, or you are offered a position
in administration or on a college level. Being unhappy doesn't
count. You can do anything for a year. During this year prepare
yourself to look for another position elsewhere. Consider all of
your options. I've been in tough positions before and made it
through. Sometimes (if you keep your head up) these challenges
will make you a better teacher / person. It's all in how you are
handling it. You say you are working 12 hour days? Why? Are you
putting things on yourself that are unnecessary? Are you using
your time wisely? What kind of relationship do you have with your
principal? Can you talk to your principal? Can you have some
things taken off your plate? My advice is to suk (spelled wrong on
purpose) it up, keep your head up, take a mental health day when
you need it, look at all of your future options, make a plan for
next year, and get through this year. Good luck. Mae
