I just moved to Baltimore city about a month ago for a teaching
job. I really like the City a lot! There is always something
going on and I enjoy the people whom I have met. It is very dog
friendly which is important to me.
The houses side by side thing (row houses, I think they are
called)is different for me as well. (I come from Mississippi
and have lived in California.) But I like the charm these types
of houses have. I know that you can get homes that are free
standing but they cost a lot. There are some for rent but you
will pay for the luxury of it.
I tutor with at risk kids 5 days a week here and I have to tell
you that they are really wonderful kids. I have found they have
a different way of being smart than what I am used to
(basically they don't do a lot of recall of facts easily). I
have found that they understand concepts very quickly and find
ways of solving math problems that I would never have thought
of on my own (I have two graduate degrees in education).
I think every place will have its challanges but I have to say
that for me Baltimore will be a wonderful place to live for a
    long while.
I hope you find something that suits you.
