    The reason you find no pay scale beyond 6 years is that the
    HIDOE does not give credit for more than 6 years experience
    when they hire teachers. I taught for 11 or 12 years on the
    mainland before coming here to teach -- some teachers come
    here with 25 years experience. Everyone who comes in with 6
    or more years of teaching history gets "credit" on the pay
    scale for 6 years. For some reason that is they way they have
    opted to do things here and it seems to work for them.
