Laura,
Lawrence is a highly competitive market. This is a dual college
town, with many highly educated families. If you are offered a
position I strongly suggest that you take it regardless of location.
(I don't actually know of any bad schools.)
On the flip side Lawrence is about 15 minutes from De Soto, KS
(great schools) and about 30-40 minutes from Olathe, KS (also great
schools)
