Re: teachnola pros/cons
Posted by Katy Anna on 1/28/08

I teach in a private school in the southwestern part of the state.
I went through a part of the T-NOLA process before choosing a
different alternative certification process outside New Orleans. I
am frequently in New Orleans, though, and have a big part of my
heart that is rooting for the children of New Orleans and for
    their teachers.

I am not sure about the process for people who already have a
teaching certificate. I do know that the process is a very
thorough and highly selective one for those who are pursuing an
alternative certification through T-NOLA. I know a very qualified
guy who is smart and very positive. He was not initially chosen
because they seem to have needs for certain subjects...

I also know that some certified people who were told to relax and
move to New Orleans because the need was greater than the number
of applicants. Then they were told in August that there were not
enough jobs for the tremendous response. Read the chatboard for
    summer 2007: http://teachers.net/states/la/posts.html.

I am so heartened to know that there are teachers who care so
passionately for New Orleans' children. New Orleans is getting
better every week. The food is back; the music is back. We need
you. The very best of luck.
