Re: teachnola pros/cons

Merrill has suggested that it is altogether worthless to spend any time in New Orleans for any reason. I do not agree with this and want to balance M's view. Many of the descriptions of teachers' working environments seem to be true and are parallel to things I've heard. Anyone seeking to teach in New Orleans should have a clear idea of what she or he is going into. I have no disagreement with that. I have also heard some great things about incredible progress made by public school teachers and students. M offers a view of New Orleans that has some emotion attached. Does this cloud M's judgment of a city that M seldom visits? I visit the city almost weekly. My church is there. I've lived in a half-dozen cities in my 52 years, but I still have a heart for New Orleans and find that everyday life there holds many rewards. Music, food, Mardi Gras, the accents, the architecture, the coffee, the history, the culture. Most of all, the people. It's not for everyone, but don't be scared away.
