Re: teachnola pros/cons

I would recommend teaching in New Orleans but not with TeachNOLA. They give you a false sense that they will provide support for their teachers. This, however, is false. If you're certified, they simply allow principals to have access to your resume, and then you're on your own. Whether you are certified or not, there is no guarantee that you will actually get a job until a principal of a school says you do. Then, you're at the mercy of the district, because you do not work or the school; you work for the district. TeachNOLA will not care about your concerns henceforth. It is additionally difficult to get an honest answer out of anyone when you ask about -potential- negatives that may occur. All of the representatives are trained to make negative aspects of this job sound positive. I whole heartedly believe that teaching in New Orleans is a noble mission. But not letting teachers know the REALITY of what to expect is NOT the way to keep them. Most teachers quit after five years. The figure in New Orleans is considerably less optimistic. TeachNOLA should really be more honest with their applicants. On 3/07/08, New Orleans bound wrote: > Please, please, please...let's all be professional.
