Re: teachnola

    Adriana

I want you to know that I am sorry that I said something to
offend someone to the extreme that I did on this thread. That
was never my intention. For all I know you did your student
teaching in inner-city Detroit and you are ready to take on
    anything!

I want to be very clear, and hopefully no one will take my
words out of context. I think that you are a brave young lady
for wanting to help the victims of Katrina. There are many
areas along the MS and LA Gulf Coast that can use your
assistance. And it is possible that New Orleans could be the
place for you. I would just suggest that you research the area
before you make the decision. Read the local newspaper online
and check out the NO police department website. I would also
suggest that you listen to the posters that have experience
with the particular schools and parishes. I know it was posted
that in some areas you will not receive much administrative
support. If you are a new teacher, lack of support could end
    your career before it begins.

Is it possible for you to visit some other communities such as
Slidell, LA or Waveland, MS (both wonderful communities)?
There are many smaller MS and LA cities that have been
negatively affected. I think if you visited the area you might
get a better feel for where your comfort level is. If it's not
possible to visit, you should reach out to teachers who work
in the different school parishes (LA)/districts (MS) for
information on working and living conditions. Most schools
have websites with teacher email addresses. I know that most
teachers would be happy to reply to inquiries.

Again, I can not express how sorry I am that I ran your thread
off track. That was never my intention. I believe that my
original post was too blunt, and therefore it offended someone
who has suffered great tragedy. I think I learn a little
humility everyday! That being said, it is not my opinion that
NO has become a very dangerous city, the levels of violent
crime ON RECORD has become astonishing. That was never said to
bash ANY school. I have never felt anything but empathy for
the students and teachers in the areas that have been slower
to recover. My concern is that it might not be a safe place
for a young female, but that is for you to research and
decide. I promise not to post on your thread again, and I will
pray you get the answers you are seeking.
