It is hard to get hired in St. Tammany parish. The job
market is very competitive. I understand your unwillingness
to give up a permanent job, but it does help to substitute in
schools. I know many teachers who get permanently hired
after subbing for a year or two. I know my principal has a
few teachers that she would like to hire if a spot would open
up. Turn over is very small at most St. Tammany schools. At
the next job fair you might consider interviewing for special
ed positions. You would have to take classes to get
certified, but it could open the door to transfer into other
positions. A lot of people take a special ed job and then
transfer as soon as they are able to. Not a good situation
for special ed, but it is a reality.
