Post: general knowledge

Hello, I am reading on the main teacher's chatboard that
many teachers would like to exchange postcards with other
countries and states. I would just like to know what is the
real value in this - oh yes, maybe the beauty of the
picture but definitely the children absolutely won't learn
any knowledge from it. Why don't you organize a general
knowledge club in your school for the gifted ones, the ones
who are anxious to learn. I will send you few examples -
questions from general knowledge to show you what I mean. I
am suggesting it because when I have a chance to talk to a
High School student in my area about the subjects that she
or he is learning in school her/his knowledge is very
limited or an absolute "O".
1. "If God did not exist, man would be obliged to invent
Him". Who said that ?
2. Her enemies called her "Madam defficit". Who was She ?
3. The families of non-metals are not good electric
conductors except one. Which one ?
4. When a male is born with two Y chromosomes and one X,
explain what could be the problem with this male ?
5. Where does the name "Algebra" come from ?
6. What is the central chemical laboratory in the human
body ?
7. Could you tell what changes oxygen in the higher
altitude above the earth to ozone ?
8. Could you name a very famous private club in the 1700AD.
in France ?
9. Name the two independent countries in Africa in 1934.
10. What did the Curies discover in pitchblende ?
11. What magnetizes our planet ?
12. Where is the Taiga ? Name the climate.
13. What is the red pigment in the blood, that contains
iron, and occurs in vertebrate red blood cells ?
14. Los Angeles is a fast growing city. The greatest
problem is to find fresh water for the growing population.
Do you have any suggestion, or solution to solve the
problem ?
15. The birthplace of European civilization.
16. When you are sitting very still, you are still moving.
Explain why is so ?
17. How the human brain can remember that 2+2=4 ?
18. Where do you find Mesopotamia in S.America ?
19. Who built the Suez Canal ?
20. In Greek mythology, one of the tribe of warllike women
lived in Asia Minor. Do you know the name ?
Life can be experienced only by swimming in the complete
flow of knowledge.
