Post: Social Studies/History and Coaching

Is it true that many SS and History teaching positions in
middle and high schools are "resolved" for coaches? Also,
how does one become an athletic coach? Logically, one would
have played a varsity sport in high school and/or college
and be young enough to coach it. I am not aware of any need
to be certified in coaching as one would need to be in an
academic discipline. So, are coaching assignments awarded
to those teachers who are able and willing?
