Re: Social Security and Maine Teachers![]()

I taught French in Maine for 3 years. Not being able to collect
S.S. retirement + the pitable teacher salaries in Maine are the
reasons I left. I'm now in Florida, which has a lot of issues
relating to work, but my school district pays my retirement 100%
and I'll also be able to collect S.S. retirement. I'm on step 7
here, and in 2 years I will surpass what the most veteran teacher
earns in my former school district in Maine. Salaries in my
district top off at $64,000 (it takes 20 years to get there,
but ...) Sometimes I miss the scenery, the lack of traffic
congestion, and the friendly people in Maine, but I can't afford to
teach there!
