If you retire, you get money from your retirement fund (for
me it is KPERS). If I wanted to go back to teaching in
another district I could and I'd still receive my retirement
(well, it is my money) and in addition, the teacher's
salary. If you move to another state, you would even have
time to create another retirement fund. So, retiring just
gives you access to your own money in addition to whatever
else you earn. I retired at 53, but I have no intention of
going back to teaching. I might if it works for me someday,
but it isn't my intention.
