Post: Disgusted with state and federal interference?

Am I the only Maine teacher that is getting fed up with
the hoops we have to jump? LADS, MAPS, MEAS, , Learning
Results, etc. I have spoken to other K teachers that don't
even let their class have recess or any kind of choice
time. Are we under so much pressure that we can't let 5
year olds play? What is the matter with us that this has
happened? I feel like our freedom is being taken away and
that The State wants us to teach the same thing with the
same materials. We know young children learn by playing
yet more and more time is direct instruction and
assessment. Recently, I got a letter from the new state
early childhood person who wants to eagerly align the
learning results for preschool!! HELP!!! What can we do?
I am the only one who thinks this stuff is useless at best.
