Re: Teaching Opportunities in Maine?
Posted by Former Maine Teacher on 12/28/07

I used to teach foreign language in Maine. I would research
the salaries very carefully - Maine does not pay well at
all. I'm sure you and your spouse would have to take
massive salary cuts. Also, Maine has been hit quite hard by
the downturn in the economy, and I believe Maine teachers
have actually taken a decrease in salary in recent years. I
don't know what you are certified in - some subjects have
more vacancies. One more thing - it might be hard to secure
job interview when/if you are out of state. If you truly
want to teach in Maine, you might want to relocate before
applying for jobs, though that could be risky. Good luck.
