I moved here with a teaching degree from NJ. Here in Maine,
they make you take the teachers' exam again, regardless of
your experience. THEN, you have to be "mentored" for 2 whole
years (once you get a school that will hire you with the
provisional certificate you get after the test). Then you
finally get your professional (permanent) certificate.
Honestly, it's a great place to live, however the
certification and employment issues that I've encountered
have been terribly frustrating and time consuming, not to
mention expensive. I live in Central Maine, so perhaps the
market is better in the Portland area. Best of luck to you
